President Marcos inspects Metro Manila Subway Project construction status in the Republic of the Philippines

― Metro Manila Subway Project (Phase 1) CP103 Section ―

Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd., (SMCC) (Head Office: 2-1-6 Tsukuda, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Toshio Shibata) is currently carrying out construction work on the CP103 section of the Metro Manila Subway Project (Phase 1) in the Republic of the Philippines. On July 16 (Wednesday), President Marcos visited our site.

Attendees included President Marcos, Defense Secretary Teodoro, and Transportation Secretary Dizon from the Philippine government side, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Philippines Kazuya Endo and JICA Philippines Office Director Takashi Baba from the Japanese side, who confirmed the progress of the construction work.

The CP103 section is an approximately 6.5km underground railway section connecting East Avenue Station to Ortigas North Station, where tunnel excavation began in January of this year and construction is progressing smoothly. While the visit of President Marcos to our site, he expressed his expectations for the opening of the Philippines' first subway system and stated that he was impressed by the continued implementation of safe construction practices with an emphasis on quality. He also highly praised our company's scheme of having Japanese engineers provide guidance and training to Filipino staff.

Moving forward, while maintaining good relationships with clients, we will continue to contribute to the economic development of the Republic of the Philippines through social infrastructure development projects that leverage our many years of overseas business management capabilities and technical expertise.
