Hello everyone, My name is Segawa (Photo on the left) and this is my 4th year working for SMCC as a civil engineer.

私が勤務している南北通勤線CP02作業所は、フィリピンの首都マニラから北へ約50kmの、ブランカン州にあります。マニラ近郊の慢性的な交通渋滞解消を目的として、新しい鉄道を建設する大規模な工事で、約800名の現地スタッフと約3000名の協力会社の職員や作業員がいて、各エリアで若手社員が活躍しています。

I am currently assigned to a project called CP02 - Contractor on Civil Works for Elevated Structures and Three Stations of PNR Clark Phase I in the Philippines. This project is located in the Province of Bulacan, about 50km north of the capital city, Manila. This is a large-scale construction project to build a new railroad to alleviate chronic traffic congestion in the suburbs of Manila. In this project, younger employees play an active role in each sector where there are around 800 local staff and 3,000 subcontractors staff.

現在、延長14kmの全区間で高架橋が建設中で、杭から橋脚の施工、桁の架設まで幅広い工種があり、杭は約2100本、橋脚は約350本もあります。橋脚は、効率良く進められるよう、ユニット化された型枠が採用されています。

Right now, a viaduct is under construction at all sections of the entire 14 km long railroad. Ongoing works range widely, from piling work to pier construction, and erection of girders, with approximately 2,100 piles and 350 piers. The project has applied preassembled formwork for the piers in order to accelerate the construction.

高架橋部分では、フィリピン初のスパンバイスパン架設工法を採用しています。これは、製作ヤードでセグメントと呼ばれるコンクリート部材を製作し、それを現場でつなぎ合わせる工法です。約4300個のセグメントを製作しますが、そのために用意した製作ヤードの敷地面積はなんと約14haもあります。（東京ドーム約3個分！）

The span-by-span erection method has been applied to the viaduct section for the first time in the Philippines. In this method, concrete members called segments are assembled in the fabrication yard and then they are joined together on site. The fabrication yard is about 14 hectares so that 4,300 segments can be fabricated. (It is about 3 times the size of Tokyo Dome!).

最大で約70tにもセグメントを1つずつトレーラーで現場へ運搬し、ガーダーと呼ばれる大型の機械を使って最大で15個のセグメントを空中でつなぎ合わせます。この工法の特徴は何といってもスピードで、50mの長さの橋をたった1週間で架設することができます。

Segments weighing up to 70 tons are transported to the site by trailer one by one, and up to 15 segments are joined together in mid-air using a large machine called a girder. The most distinctive feature of this method is its speed; a 50-meter-long bridge can be erected in just one week.

またこの工事では、3駅の建設も同時に行っています。大きな屋根が特徴のこの駅は、ホームが建設され、外装工事および内装工事が進められています。ホームに立って多くの人が利用することを想像すると、完成が楽しみになります。

Simultaneously, three different stations are also under construction. The characteristics of these stations are their large roofs. The platforms have already been constructed, and now the exterior and interior work is ongoing. I am looking forward to the completion of the stations as I imagine many people standing on the platform and using the station for transportation.

日々、活気あふれる当作業所では、フィリピン子供医療センター（Philippine Children's Medical Center、以下PCMC）とのパートナーシップによる献血活動を実施しました。当日は、PCMCから医師2名、医療従事者7名、救急車ドライバー3名を含む計12名のスタッフが現場事務所を訪れ、食堂に配置されたベッドで献血活動を行いました。

Our vibrant site office held a blood donation activity in partnership with Philippine Children's Medical Center (PCMC). A total of 12 staff members from PCMC (2 doctors, 7 medical practitioners, and 3 ambulance drivers) visited the site office. The cafeteria has been set up with beds and equipment for this activity.

献血協力者は医師による診断を受け、ヘモグロビン数チェック等を経て、1人1袋（450ml）の採血に臨みました。1袋分の血液は、最大3人の小児がんの子どもたちのために役立てられます。また、今回の献血活動には、「将来自分が怪我・病気などで献血が必要になった場合、優先的に献血を受けられる」という特徴があり、名前や血液型などの記録が残されます。

The blood donors were examined by a doctor and their hemoglobin count was checked, The donors gave 1 bag (450ml) of blood each. 1 bag of blood helps up to 3 children fighting with cancer. One of the benefits of this blood donation activity is that the donors are able to receive blood transfusion in priority in case of an emergency such as an accident in the future, so that our names and the blood type were recorded.

当作業所だけでなく、マニラ事務所のメンバーも加わり、合計103名が献血活動に参加しました。大規模現場の強みを活かした活動となりました。

A total of 103 staff participated in this blood donation activity, including staff from the Manila office. This activity was such a success utilizing the strength of the large scale project.

雨期のフィリピンでは、日々、突然の大雨（スコール）が発生し、大変な面もありますが、工事の完成後に電車が通る姿を想像し、業務に励みたいと思います！

In the Philippines during the rainy season, we are usually hit by sudden squalls on a daily basis, and it is tough. But thinking of the trains passing through after the completion of the project makes me want to work harder.
